About Obleek
From the time I was about 8 years old until my last year of high school, I had fully intended on becoming a veterinarian. A veterinarian who loved to draw and paint. Everyone expected that is what I would go on to do. But, during the winter of grade twelve, the confidence I had been lacking in my artistic abilities grew stronger and I discovered something about myself—I was head-over-heels-in-love with art and design. I knew that it was while creating that I was truly happiest, and so I explored the career options available to me. 3 years later, I graduated from Grant MacEwan’s Visual Communication and Design program and began my career as a graphic designer. And as for the vet thing, I am currently owned by 4 cats, 2 pugs, and a couple of parrots, all who inspire me on a daily basis (when I'm not tripping over them that is).
I’ve been dabbling in graphic design and the web since 2000 (professionally since 2002) and I’m incredibly passionate about what I do. So passionate, that I decided to make my money by freelancing full time instead of taking jobs on the side while working as an in-house designer to pay the bills. And so Obleek was born. I’m great at taking ideas and forming them into something tangible, whether it be a logo, an illustration, a web site, or the whole kit-and-caboodle. Of course I also have the awesome skills of my programmer husband at hand in case I encounter something my own repetoire can't handle.
I love all areas of graphic design, but the pull towards the world wide web has always been the strongest. I think that's because being a web designer allows me to be creative while embracing my inner geek all at the same time. I create websites that follow Web 2.0 standards by using CSS and XHTML, which means the sites I produce are clean with a strong emphasis on usability. When paired with Expression Engine, this makes your website incredibly easy to maintain yourself. No webmaster required and no need for special software.
