Meet Obleek’s support staff

One of the perks of running your own home-based business is just that; you work from home. Since starting a few weeks ago, I can already tell you that my 4 cats and 2 pugs are very much enjoying having me around all day. If I’m in the office, then I usually have at least 4 of the 6 animals (if not all) with me as well. When setting my office up, I had to ensure there were animal friendly spots available, because this space is as much theirs as it is mine. Right now, I’ve got two pet beds, a visitor’s chair, and a nice window ledge that are frequently in use. Not to mention that I had to put a small table under said window to allow easy access. Though despite these designated pet areas, more often than not I have to reach around a sleeping cat or gingerly move one over to be able to operate my keyboard and mouse. And you’ve always got to look carefully before rolling the chair back, lest you roll over a sleeping pug at your feet. Not exactly ergonomic, but it works.

Maya

Maya – Mailroom Clerk
As you can see, Maya deals with all things paper. She spends her time sorting (and sleeping) through the mail and recycling, making sure that nothing important is missed. It’s a hard job, but someone’s got to do it.

Penny

Penny – Marketing and Public Relations
Penny spends most of her time perched in the office window, catching all of us up one what’s going on outside. Usually there is a pesky crow who sits on the neighbour’s roof and squawks at us, so she frequently chatters back at him and any other bird that may fly by.

Crabby Abby

Abby (aka Crabby Abby) – Administrative Assistant
Abby doesn’t really work so well with her other coworkers, so she spends her day on my desk (usually in front of the mouse and keyboard) greeting anyone who might stop by. Crabby cat that she is, she always lets me know if I’ve been working too hard and neglecting my staff’s coffee breaks. I also sic her on delinquent clients, so consider yourself warned.

Stevie

Stevie – Usability Consultant
Stevie is the friendliest with all the others, and she spends a lot of her time wandering around keeping up the team morale and providing kisses (whether they are wanted or not). If needed, she also sits in front of the monitor and chases the cursor, just to make sure that all the websites we design are working properly. She also diligently watches the monitor when I’m away from my desk, and tries to catch those pesky bubbles that float all over my screen. After all that hard work, you’ll find Stevie napping in one of the pet beds, a perk of working at Obleek.

Stevie

Simone and Moglee – Security
You’ll find Simone and Moglee wherever I am, as they’re my own personal furry bodyguards. They alert me to anything that may be out of the norm, whether that’s Abby trying to dart across the room without notice, or the meter reader outside. They also police the office to make sure everyone’s working hard, and Moglee knows exactly when lunchtime and the next walk break is. The end of the day is signalled when my husband Nathan comes home, as they hear the beep of him locking the car (though I do not) and race to the door to greet him.

At this time, Obleek is not hiring anymore support staff, but we are an equal opportunities employer. Feathers, hair, or fur, we’re not picky.
